Summary
Chapter Fourteen. Moving in and out of his cell in the white compound at Okperi, Ezeulu contemplates the impending appearance of the new moon, wondering whether he will be able to see it from this strange land he is in. He finally decides that he probably will not; “every land had its own sky; it was as it should be” (159). He finally falls asleep, and dreams of his grandfather being confronted by the elders of the village in the same way that he had been. He wakes from the dream with a start, and realizes that the dream had, in fact, been about taking his revenge on the rebellious people of Umuaro.
The next day, Clarke and an aide find an extravagant ritual sacrifice by the side of the road, unusual because it contains a British coin. The aide takes the coin...
