Part 2, Chapter 1-5 Summary

In chapter one the prisoner planet of Lyndrill, the prisoners are being served their meal. The greasy substance is fed in small amounts to the prisoners and is designed to give them strength to continue digging in the salt mines. A dwarf is getting his serving of puryn when he is suddenly attacked and killed. The prisoner that killed him, a human, eats the dwarf's share of the puryn and with that extra bit of strength is able to take on one of the larger inmates and take his puryn as well. With the extra energy running through his body he makes it to the surface of the planet.
