Summary
In Chapter 19, in the present, Joy has been gone for 13 days. Christina is thinking about her fiancé calling her cynical. Then, she reads a printout from Joy’s computer that Joy wrote for her memoir class. It says that her father left her when she was a young child and died three years later in a fist fight. She and her mother went to live with Joy’s grandparents, who were the ones who really brought her up. Joy was close to her grandfather who loved tennis. She loved it, too. She writes about her early married life with Stan. When he got injured, they left the tennis circuit and started Delaney’s Tennis Academy.
Ethan arrives with Joy’s search history for the day she disappeared. It shows searches about divorce. He also tells her that Joy called a plastic surgeon named...
