Summary
In “The Spoiled Brat,” Gansworth begins narrating his childhood. His oldest brother is drafted to Vietnam and his mother sends pictures of the family to him while he is away. Gansworth loves wearing a cape and mask and pretending to be Batman, so when his brother returns home, he buys Gansworth a child-size Batmobile to ride in.
In “I Believe I Find Evidence That I Am Not an Alien,” Gansworth explains that keeping and trading photographs is especially significant on the reservation. In “Official and Unofficial Covers,” he describes a photograph of his sister reading a textbook and reflects on omissions in history books.
In “What They Leave Us, When They Leave Us,” Gansworth recalls growing up the youngest child. He watches each of his siblings move out of the house. His oldest brother leaves behind his early Beatles records...
