Summary
The narration shifts to when the protagonist was still with the firm. One day, he stubbed one of his smaller toes while he was in his apartment. The toe bled, so he placed an Apex bandage on it. The narrative then shifts back to the present. The protagonist awakes in his hotel room feeling confused and anxious about his assignment. He receives a call from Beverley and meets with her in a nearby café. Beverley has found Gertrude Sanders’ original draft of the town history, which the Winthrops rejected because it was too factual. Beverley gives a copy of the draft to the protagonist. Later, the protagonist sees the article that Jurgen had written and published about him. It was highly inaccurate and stated that the protagonist supported the name New Prospera. The paper was apparently owned by Lucky. The narration then exposits further...
