Summary
Jumping back to the opening vignette, Chapters 64 and 65 reveal that Rami has now arrived in Beit Jala after passing under the tunnel and beyond the sign forbidding Israelis from entering unauthorized. He sees a group of young boys who yell when they see his sticker reading “It will not be over until we talk" (32). In Chapters 66 and 67, he continues on to his meeting while the blimp rises over Jerusalem. He has mixed feelings about his many Israeli identities and opinions, and as he passes another group of boys in Chapter 68, he thinks about his dead daughter Smadar. Chapters 69 and 70 reveal that the name Smadar comes from the song of Solomon, meaning the grapevine, while Abir is ancient Arabic for perfume.
