The Town

The entire novel takes place in a small Swedish town, that is never identified. Due to the size of the town, the police department is small, and most characters were aware of the man who jumped off the bridge 10 years before the robbery. There is one major cashless bank in the town, where London works as a teller, Zara a manager, and the robber attempts to steal from.

The characters often reference Stockholm, the nearest major city, which acts as their foil throughout the novel. The characters describe Stockholmers as people who annoy them, prevent their happiness, or are different from themselves.

Most of the novel takes place on December 30th. While the year is not explicitly stated, it is presumed to be 2018, as the narrator alludes to a financial market crash that began in another country, 10 years before the robbery. This alludes to the U.S...
