Ingo’s Film

Ingo’s film symbolizes the ephemeral nature of art, memory, reality, and perception. Film is often viewed as a medium defined by permanence. However, not only does B. lose the film after just one viewing, but his attempts to recall the film are plagued by uncertainty and a sense of change. This ephemerality is mirrored in the rapid changes that then affect B.’s reality.

The Unseen

The ‘Unseen’ symbolizes the limitations of art and media. When making his film, Ingo constructs scenes and characters that he then purposely does not film. These scenes, which mostly focus on downtrodden and neglected people, reflect mass media’s habit of ignoring urgent social issues. When B. briefly escapes into the Unseen, this interval represents his own alienation from society.
