Summary
In Chapter 45, B. has another session with Barassini, and he recalls further scenes from the Mudd-Molloy storyline. Mudd considers working with a different comedy partner, at least temporarily. Understandably, Molloy objects to the idea. Molloy continues to advocate that they should make new comedy routines based around agreement and lack of conflict. After the session, B. goes to a library to do some research. He is surprised to discover that Mudd and Molloy were apparently a real comedy duo, not two fictional characters that Ingo invented for his film. In Chapter 46, B, continues to remember Mudd and Molloy’s storyline. After Molloy recovers, they mount new films and stage shows, which find little success or popularity. At Molloy’s direction, the shows all revolve either around profound tragedies, or around a general lack of narrative conflict. B. returns to his apartment to sleep, and...
