Summary
In Chapter 23, B. walks through New York and feels revolted by the commercial, artificial feeling that seems to have overtaken the city. B. thinks that another virtue of Ingo’s film is how it presciently examined the intertwining of ‘the artificial’ into everyday life. B. then thinks about the many ills that plague the world, and he suddenly worries that he has never contributed anything of value to the world. B. returns to his apartment and realizes that he can see into an apartment in an adjacent building. The resident, a woman named Marjorie Morningstar, speaks to B. She explains that she does voiceover for Slammy’s commercials. Slammy’s is expanding and is in the process of opening locations in New York City. She wants to move into a bigger apartment, and B. can no longer afford his, so they agree to switch...
