Chuluota, Florida

Chuluota is the town in Florida where Rajiv's family lives. He spends the majority of his childhood in this place. Whenever Rajiv returns to Chuluota, he realizes what a "hostile and racist place" it is (18). After graduating from college, Rajiv moves back to Chuluota and lives in his parents' home. Although this time brings Rajiv and Emily closer, it also exacerbates Rajiv's feelings of loneliness and alienation. He becomes desperate to escape the Florida town, attributing much of his frustration to this environment.

Toronto, Canada

Toronto is the city in Ontario, Canada where much of Rajiv's extended family lives. Although he and his family reside in Florida, they often travel to Toronto to see Rajiv's grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. These trips are particularly important to Rajiv, as they give him a chance to visit with Aji and to hear her stories and songs.
