Summary

Felix Moor and Story Nadir wait outside of the Wizard’s compound in West Texas. Though he has not revealed it to Story, Felix is really Samson DeWitt, Avon’s estranged son; when he was a child, he shot and killed two police officers in his father’s defense. Felix has been tracking the Wizard because he has his sister, Bathsheba (who is going by the name Katie) in his custody and is trying to impregnate her so that his fortune can have an heir. Bathsheba was lured into servitude by the Wizard’s closest ally, a woman named Astrid Prefontaine, and promised that she would be made a famous artist by the Wizard’s patronage.
