Summary
In Chapter 13, Rozin is late to work because the twins are upset over their parents’ upcoming divorce and their mother’s relationship with Frank. They are so distraught that they won’t go to school and, although she “has many doubts”, Rozin asks Sweetheart Calico to watch them out of desperation (152). As soon as Rozin leaves for work, Sweetheart Calico leads the girls away from the house. They stop at a park and play with her dog, who is worried about the girls and drinks any water he can find so that he can leave a scent trail to follow home as he knows Sweetheart Calico will get lost.
