Summary
Almost Soup resumes his narration in Chapter 9. Cally and Deanna go to the park with their father, and they see Frank walking with a woman wearing the exact same dress that their mother owns. They tell Richard to look, but he denies the identity of the woman. As Rozin places her hand on Frank’s chest, the twins realize that it is “some other woman whose face, alight and radiant and still with anticipation, they have never seen before” (116).
When they return home from the park, Richard is served with a court summons. He blames Relocation, reasoning that he could have avoided this situation “without the proximity of all those acres of carpet” and regrets that he had not stayed with his family on the reservation (117).
