Abandonment
"Annie's Baby," is the story of a fourteen-year-old girl who gets pregnant. Her father abandoned the family when Annie was five and she lives in an apartment with her single mother who is a school teacher. Annie's mother has struggled to support herself and her daughter which Annie, of course, has observed and lived under. She sees life as a struggle without a man. She compares her life in a small apartment with a mother who just makes it to her friends who live in big houses and have a mother and father and extra money to throw around. Annie was abandoned by her father but she, in her immaturity, has translated that to mean that life without a man is inferior to that with one.
Being gullible, naïve, unsophisticated, and at a time of life in which she is beginning to leave her childhood behind her...
