Herzog is worried that they are losing time, and determines that they must decide which mountain to climb, and which route to explore. The consensus among those who have tried to find a possible route up Dhauligiri is that the mountain is too dangerous. Herzog temporarily defends the idea of trying to ascend Dhauligiri in order to exhaust all the arguments.
