Summary
Part IV, “Retrospective,” begins in New York in 1998 and is told from the perspective of Anita. Anita had stopped visiting the land of the living very often until one day in 1998 when she felt called to climb the ceiba tree. She watched the woman who had bought all of her work at the auction look at one of her pieces and then put it away again.
The next chapter returns to Raquel in 1998. Raquel emailed her thesis advisor John Temple to tell him she wanted to discuss why the murder of Anita de Monte was not discussed in classes about Jack Martin.
