Summary
In “The Mouse,” Gamini reflects on the time in his life following his split from his wife, Chrishanti. He recalls Sarath’s wife visiting him once in Emergency Services, and remembers how he once, at a masquerade ball and when she was already was engaged to Sarath, proposed to her. They decided afterwards to keep a careful distance.
Two months after his wife left him, Gamini suffered a breakdown and collapse. After being released from the hospital, he walks to Nugegoda, where his home with his wife once was. He knocks on the door of the house, only to discover that his wife no longer lives there; the new residents give Gamini some of the mail that is addressed to him and his wife. He then hires a driver to take him to a forest monastery in Arankale, where his father had once...
