The character of Georgia, the 14-year-old narrator and protagonist, provides the focus of both books. Georgia is honest, energetic, sarcastic, funny, and thoroughly believable. Readers currently in their teens would probably like to be friends with Georgia, and older readers will find her familiar, perhaps like themselves or their friends in their own teen years. Georgia is refreshingly normal, given to mood swings, and skeptical of the adult world, self-absorbed but well-meaning, and totally concerned with her social life. Georgia comes from an average, loving family with two parents, who refuse to empathize with her ongoing problems, and a three-year-old sister, Libby, who often embarrasses her. While Georgia finds her own challenges traumatic, she is a generally happy, well-behaved teenager with none of the problems the media so often associates with teenagers. No drugs, no violence, no sex (beyond kissing or "snogging"), no deep psychological problems...
