Scientific Ethics.

Scientific ethics play a very important role in the book. The lack of ethics of some scientists have caused kids to be created who do not fit into normal society. These scientists feel it is alright to sacrifice a few kids for their ideals and the greater good.

The Flock - Max and her flock have been created by scientists. They were born from test tube mixes of human and bird DNA. They are not thought of as human, but as experiments. The flock grew up locked in cages by scientists who felt they were only important for experimentation purposes.

The Gang- Fang's gang is made of kids who were genetically experimented on after birth and against their will. The scientists who changed them felt it was their right to "improve" them without their consent because it was for the betterment of society.
