Section 13: Chapter 23 & Chapter 24 Summary
In Chapter 23, Ross wonders if the gypsy morph is much different from humans as he watches Little John play, and when he tries to carefully consider Little John's aversion to Wraith, he thinks that maybe Wraith's magic competes with the morph's magic in some way. When Josie phones, Ross explains that he left because he was worried about Little John, and though Ross wants to go to Josie, he knows there is no chance of their having a life together. Recalling his last meeting with the lady, Ross is "reminded anew of how deceptive hope could be" (page 295). The tatterdemalion summoned him to the Fairy Glen in early October, and Ross flew there immediately to see the Lady.
