Section 8: Chapter 14 Summary
In Chapter 14, Ray Childress closes the slide for the evening as Nest chides herself for the stupidity of thinking Gask would not try something in public as Robert notes how strange it is that Nest could see the hole in the pitch black night. Nest joins Ross and explains that Gask opened the ice. Nest and her guests return to her house, and Bennett decides to take a walk down the street because she needs time alone. After she buys two packs of cigarettes at the gas station, Penny appears and offers her a ride. Feeling the inevitability of the situation and wanting to feel good for a little while, Bennett allows Penny to lead her away. As Ray Childress goes down the slope to investigate upon hearing the sound of ice tightening, he does not see the myriad eyes watching...
