The first problem with assessing the critical reputation of Do Androids Dream of Sheep? is distinguishing the novel from the film it inspired, 1982's Blade Runner. There are film reviews, there are book reviews, and there are reviews which confuse the two; anything written before the movie's release in 1982 is probably a safe bet, however. Therefore, before engaging with the criticism of the novel in any form, be sure that the critic is discussing the novel by checking its title and its references to the plot line.
