Ethan Winter
Ethan Winter is one of the central characters in the novel. He is the one who has the most positive outcome. When he decides his job as a computer programmer was morally questionable, he switches to a job as a teacher and tries to help Don locate Zoe.
At the beginning of the novel Ethan is living with Zoe. He believes that Zoe is a girl who stays with him because of his money. He works as a computer programmer at UIB. His programs allow the bank to manipulate money based on exchange rates. He focuses on the fluctuations in exchange rates when there are act of terrorism or war. After he is no longer working for the bank, he realizes he was making his money off other people’s misfortunes.
