Summary
In Chapter 37, as Chen is finishing her report on Zoe’s death, she is leaning toward terming the death accidental instead of suicide. Her decision is being swayed by her grandmother’s stories in which Chinese ghosts are vengeful to those who have wronged them. Although she does not believe the stories, she does know that if she erred and called it a suicide when it was not, she would be haunted by her mistake. Her partner believes it was a suicide because of the ritual with the candles.
