When the woman who lives there realizes who he is, she says she feels sorry for him. The boy has spent the day thinking about the previous year and realizes that he hasn't lost anything but has actually gained a sense of self-discovery.
It always began when he would hear someone calling him by his name but when he turned his head to see who was calling, he would make a complete turn and there he would end up - in the same place.
