The Zulu people of Natal tell the tale of how the Holy Rain Goddess, Mbaba Mwana Waresa, came to earth to choose her mate. The Goddess prepares for her wedding day in a most unusual way. She shaves her head, covers her body in ashes and dons the tattered skin of a zebra. Mbaba Mwana Waresa dresses her friend in the traditional garb of a Zulu bride. As the Goddess and her friend journey to the earth, the sky fills with a great storm. The chosen man anxiously waits for his bride to arrive. The earthly women attendants watch in anticipation, wondering if the groom will recognize his bride. Despite her downtrodden appearance, the groom graciously welcomes Mbaba Mwana Waresa.
