Pages 103-130 Summary
Alexander goes to the old house on the Thames the studio has rented. It is the day of the read-through of the script. He meets everyone. The star, Dawn Devonport, is the last to arrive. Upon his introduction to her, Alexander notes the flaws of the beautiful actress—her grey-like skin color and her mannish hands.
As they take their chairs to start the reading, Alexander and Dawn Devonport exchange a look. For some reason, Dawn Devonport reminds him of Cass.
Alexander thinks about how each of the women in his life has left an impression on him. He often thinks he sees his dead daughter in the crowds of people. He even thinks he sees other women that have come and gone out of his life. The only woman he never thinks he sees in crowds is Mrs. Gray...
