Summary
Chapter 16 returns to day three of the trial on April 26th, 2017 as Olivia’s testimony continues, with Kate noticing Sophie's absence. In order to establish the fact of James’s angry mood the night of the alleged rape, Kate references a disparaging article from the London Times that previous October in which the author accused James’s ministry with treating the rights of terror suspects with the same callous disregard as James’s elite Oxford dining club, the Libertines, showed the owners and workers of the restaurants and pubs they terrorized with their destructive merriment. Kate leads Olivia through the distressing details accompanying evidence submissions of her torn underwear and photographs of a bite mark on her breast.
