Summary
In Chapter 24, as Mireille ran down the street she felt as if her mind was still in the “cage” (211) even though her body was free. She did not stop until she reached a church, where she believed she would be safe. She told the preacher she needed help, but hissed at him when he tried to touch her. The man assured Mireille he would not hurt her. He recognized her and called her father. The preacher’s wife sat with Mireille as they waited for Sebastian and Michael.
