Summary
In Chapter 14, later that afternoon, Violet told Benedict that she did think Sophie was not who she said she was. She argued Sophie was too well educated to be just a maid. In Francesca’s room, Violet had noticed Sophie reading a book written in French. Violet suggested that Sophie was the illegitimate child of a nobleman. Benedict believed that explanation was plausible, but wondered why her father had stopped taking care of her. Violet assured him that she would learn Sophie’s identity within a month.
Sophie, however, knew she could not stay in London. She believed working for the Bridgertons would be a good position, but feared Araminta would see her and make her life difficult.
