Summary
In Chapter 10, as promised Mr. Crabtree intercepted the tonics his wife made for Benedict and replaced them with brandy. Benedict noticed the rosebushes outside his window were dying where Mr. Crabtree had dumped the tonic out on the ground. Benedict enjoyed his recovery period because Sophie had visited him often. During one of those visits, Benedict realized how much he wanted Sophie. It was an urgent enough need that he began to shift in bed. Sophie noticed and asked if there was anything she could do to make him more comfortable.
Sophie read poetry to him, but realized he was not paying attention. He had been staring at her lips and thinking about how much he wanted to kiss her. Because he did not want to sexually attack her, he made the excuse that he had some private business to attend to...
