Part II: The Trials, continued
XLIV: Elias – As Elias and Helene are led along by the Augurs to the amphitheater, Helene pleads with Elias to be strong and win the Trials, or else everything will be lost. Marcus is already in the amphitheater, blazing with hatred once more. Elias is stunned to see the Commandant, an Augur, and a tied-up Laia arrive. Cain addresses the Aspirants and the audience, saying that all three Aspirants must now proceed to execute Laia, and the first to carry out the order will be declared victor of the Trial. Helene attacks Marcus, urging Elias to kill Laia before Marcus can recover. Elias tells her it is a line he will not cross. Helene says she will then kill the girl, because the girl will be killed anyway. Marcus takes advantage of the argument and stabs...
