Summary

In Chapter 57, later on Saturday, Shields notices during her dinner with Thomas that he is distracted. During dessert, Thomas gets a text which he claims says a patient of his has been admitted to a mental health hospital. He has to leave.

Alone at home later, Shields determines from the way the folders are laying on her desk that someone has been looking at her files. Shields wonders if Thomas violated his belief in patient confidentiality because he believed he needed to protect her from Jess.

Chapter 58 is narrated by Jess on Sunday, December 23. She pays a visit to Lauren’s boutique shop where she shows Lauren a picture of Thomas. Lauren shows no sign of guilt, love, or even recognition. Lauren is insistent that she did not have an affair with Thomas.
