Chapters 6 through 11 Summary

In Chapter Six, Matthias rushes to hide himself and Alia behind a log. He can barely see but is able to make out men in dark uniforms and knows it's the Population Police. Initially, it seems the police might be shooting at Percy and Matthias but it's then revealed there's actually rebels in a nearby shack, and they are involved in the gunfight. The police kill all the rebels and pile their bodies near the road with a sign that reads, "Enemies of the People."

After the police leave, Percy signals Matthias that the way is clear and Matthias heads down the hill toward the shack. Matthias immediately realizes Percy has been shot in the leg. There's a great deal of blood and then Percy passes out.
