Summary
Chapter 10 – Blood and Urine. At the beginning of 2011, Stacey prepares to undergo a series of tests to find out what contaminants there are in the air around her home, having learned a great deal about airborne contaminants from her research. Those tests are to involve the taking of large amounts of both blood and urine from Stacey and her children, something all three are nervous about. Meanwhile, she is called into a meeting with representatives from Range Resources to discuss the tests that she has demanded on her water. On her way to that meeting, she sees roadside billboards advertising the merits of working in the fracking industry, and contemplates how “people were so desperate for health insurance they were willing to take jobs that made others sick” (86-87).
