Summary

Chapter 11 begins with Soojin talking to Emily and Amina at lunch break. Emily smells Soojin’s food, and says that it must be delicious. While Soojin tells Emily that it is bulgogi, Amina watches in disbelief because of her memory of the time that Emily made fun of Soojin for bringing kimchee to school. Emily tells Amina and Soojin that she wishes her mother could cook just as well as that. Amina asks Emily about her mother’s delicious peanut butter cookies, but Emily tells her that she only makes those on special occasions.

Soojin and Emily continue to bond while Amina’s jealousy grows. Eventually, Emily wants to tell Soojin a secret, and Soojin tells Emily that Amina is trustworthy. Emily reveals that she “likes” (93) Justin, one of their classmates. Amina is “grossed out” (94) hearing this conversation.
