Point of View
The novel utilizes an omniscient third-person narrator, and the mobility of this type of narrator allows the novel to explores the perspectives of many different characters. In fact, such a widespread exploration of competing perspectives is necessary for the narrative’s function as an illustration of competing sociopolitical goals. Moreover, in order to advance the story, it is necessary for the reader to be aware of the scope of each character’s knowledge and awareness. The narrative involves much subterfuge, especially where Maxim Tasan is involved, and so it is important to track what each character knows as well as what they believe at any given point in the story.
