Summary
In Chapter 15, Seraphine feels distraught after Alamaya ends their courtship, and she has a heated argument with her parents. She leaves their home and goes to stay with her friend Bunchetta Facey. Bunchetta says that she has many contacts in the downtown area of the city, and she invites Seraphine to become a part of her downtown social circles. Bunchetta adds that because she and Seraphine have such light complexions, they will face little or no discrimination downtown. Later, Serpahine and Bunchetta attend a social gathering downtown hosted by an organization called Interlink, which is ostensibly dedicated to creating cooperative sociopolitical relationships between racial groups. One of the guests present is Maxim Tasan. Along with the members of Interlink, Tasan tells Seraphine that Interlink is a vital and progressive organization dedicated to widespread sociopolitical advancement for all oppressed peoples.
