Summary
Chapter 6 is entitled “The Case of Robinson.” Karl has continued to work as an elevator operator at the Hotel Occidental. One day, while Karl is working, Robinson enters the hotel and approaches Karl. Karl is upset to see Robinson again, but he is also taken aback by the high-quality clothing Robinson is wearing. Robinson says that he and Delamarche are doing well financially, and that Karl should come visit them. Karl is hesitant, not only because of how they treated him previously, but also because Robinson is clearly drunk. Robinson then asks Karl for money, seemingly contradicting his earlier state about doing well financially. Karl gives Robinson money on the condition that Robinson never seek him out again. However, before Robinson can leave, he falls down in a state of drunkenness and says that he cannot stand or walk. Karl manages to guide Robinsons...
