New York City
New York City is Marie's residence for almost her entire life: she grows up there, and she also lives in Harlem during the time she is an FBI agent, before going on her missions. Marie's relationship to New York City is influenced by the dramatically different relationship her two parents have to the city. Marie's mother is an immigrant, from Martinique, and is not deeply established in the city, while her father was a career policeman, and thus was deeply established in the city. Additionally, Marie's paternal grandfather owned two residential buildings in the city (Marie will eventually leave these as an inheritance for her sons), further establishing her familial roots. Marie and Thomas Sankara spend their first meaningful time together around Marie's neighborhood of Harlem.
