Summary

The work begins with a prologue that introduces the idea of American Royalty. The storyline plays on the idea that George Washington accepted the offer of a monarchy, rather than become President of the United States. Chapter One is set 250 years after Washington's rule with his descendants ruling in the Capital. Beatrice, the eldest of the Washington family, is being groomed for the crown. She will be the first female ruler, and has been raised for a life of service to others. While Beatrice feels prepared to assume her role, her parents jar her with the news that she must also begin to vet potential suitors for marriage.
