Chapter 11 Summary
Shadow visits with Hinzelmann at the video store while in Lakeside. Hinzelmann tells Shadow how hard the winters are in Lakeside. Shadow buys raffle tickets for the car that will sink into the ice. When Shadow leaves the store, he goes to the library to look up thunderbirds, a Native American mythical creature that Wednesday mentioned to him. Shadow meets Marguerite Olson there, and does a coin trick for her son. When she leaves, Shadow goes down to the library's book sale and buys three books, including a book of minutes from the Lakeside Council in the late 1800's.
When Shadow gets back to his apartment, he finds Chad Mulligan waiting for him. Mulligan says he just stopped to check on Shadow. He tells him about Marguerite Olson, and how her son, Sandy, disappeared last year. Everyone in town figures his father kidnapped...
