Summary

This section begins with Chapter Twenty-Nine in which the migrant group sleeps most of the evening into the next day to prepare for their journey in the desert. The coyote warns them to be prepared or he will leave them behind. They have a collective meal together which becomes festive despite circumstances. Two brothers with teenage sons join the group, along with a PhD candidate from the University of Arizona. Lydia learns of immigration check-ins and how Marisol was deported for checking in, while the deported student, Nicolas, never checked in. He was deported for failing to fill out proper student paperwork.
