Douglas Macarthur
Douglas MacArthur was born on January 26, 1880 to Arthur Jr. and Pinky. He was their third child and was born at Fort Dodge which is now part of Little Rock, Arkansas. As the son of a Army officer, the family moved around a lot, but he attended preparatory school in Texas. Before that, he was home schooled by his mother until he was eight and when the family transferred to Leavenworth where there was a school.
After graduation from the West Texas Military Academy as valedictorian, he tried to gain admission to West Point and finally did in 1849. After four years, he was first in his class and was assigned to the Corps of Engineers which went to the Philippines. He became a first lieutenant in 1904 and was appointed chief engineer for the Division of the Pacific in 1905. Thus began his rise through the ranks of the Army...
