Summary
Hero reflects on the myth of the White Lady—ghosts of murdered women who supposedly started appearing when Spanish friars (then again when American soldiers) arrived in the Philippines. She then thinks how when she was in her first and only year of medical school, she believes that she saw the ghost of a student who had fallen out of her dorm bed and died. Back in the present, Hero nervously tells Paz that she saw Jejo and Freddie tickling Roni, and Paz says she’ll talk to them. Later, Hero joins Rosalyn’s group of friends at a party in San Jose. She meets a woman with a shaved undercut named Vanessa as well as Jaime’s sister Cely. After an awkward dispute with Rosalyn, Hero leaves the party with Vanessa and they sleep together. The morning after, Jaime picks Hero...
