Summary
In Chapter 8, on the plane home, Sydney wondered who had killed the man who tormented her. She thought, perhaps, there was someone besides her and Zarif trying to keep Malik safe. As she considered how she had failed to keep Malik safe, she felt a cold breeze and turned to see the ghosts of two rapists and murderers that she had killed. Although they had been evil, they had also been someone’s sons and husbands. She considered them her Greek furies because they reminded her of her failures. At the same time, she did not want to get to the point that she was no longer bothered by death.
