Summary
In Chapter 12, Nora and Charlie attend a dinner party at the apartment of Jim DeGeneris, a co-worker of Charlie's who is newly separated from his wife. Charlie believes the invitation could bode well for his career, but Nora quickly realizes that they have been invited because Jim wants to hear the details of the Jack Fisk/Ricky incident. A younger associate from Charlie's firm, Jason, tries to ingratiate himself with Nora, believing she will soon be running Bob Harris' foundation. Later that night, Nora remarks that she is surprised that Jim left his wife, Polly, and Charlie informs her that, in fact, Polly left Jim for another man.
Chapter 13 begins with a note from Sidney Stoller stating that the parking lot will remain closed until further notice. The houses on the dead-end block are falling into disrepair without Ricky. Nora receives...
