Summary

Maddie picks through abandoned construction sites around the neighborhood to look for forgotten tools or useful items. When she sees a house that reminds her of life before everybody fled the town, she is overcome with rage and throws a rock through the window, shattering it. As she investigates another house and tries to find something to scavenge, a storm brews. She realizes too late that it is the start of a tornado. Maddie runs with George back to their house. Maddie barely makes it and injures herself before passing out.

When Maddie wakes up, she is in the bathtub and George is laying on the floor next to her. When she tries to stand up, the pain in her leg is debilitating and she falls backward. Maddie has a large gash on her leg and blood streaks the floor. Maddie limps into...
