Book 3, Jane and Nicholas: Chapters 11-14 Summary
Chapter 11. Despite going to the same college and attending some of the same classes, Jane and Nicholas do not actually meet until the end of their junior year. Jane, a member of the drama club, is playing Gertrude in Hamlet when the director, Professor Ritter, asks Nicholas to play Fortinbras because he can leap from a balcony. Nicholas does not want the part because he does not think he can act, but accepts when the professor becomes insistent. Jane is appointed to coach Nicholas. Jane falls immediately in love, but Nicholas is pinned to a girl named Diane whom he expects to marry after graduation.
